[ARCHIVED] Council and Mayor adopt joint resolution in conjunction with Ogden School Board

Council Meetings with Ogden School Board of Education

On Tuesday, October 16, the Ogden City Council and Mayor Mike Caldwell adopted a joint resolution to show support for the $87 million 2018 Ogden School Bond that will facilitate the much-needed renovation and reconstruction of several schools in the City.

The Ogden School Board of Education will consider the same resolution in their meeting on October 25.

The adoption of this resolution marks the first time that the City has done so in conjunction with the Ogden School Board.

“This joint resolution is an example of the synergistic relationship we have with the Ogden School District,” Ogden City Council Chair Richard A. Hyer said. “We hope Ogden residents understand that this bond will provide a significant benefit to our schools, which in turn will also benefit the City.”

Eight of the elementary schools in Ogden School District were built before 1960 and do not meet seismic and security standards, nor the learning and technology needs of students.

Included in the bond is funding for a new school to replace Horace Mann Elementary, a new addition to Wasatch Elementary, a new school to replace T.O. Smith Elementary, and the renovation of Polk Elementary.

Ogden City officials met with the Ogden School District Board of Education on October 4, 2018 to discuss matters of mutual concern, which included the 2018 Ogden School Bond. This discussion led to a recommendation of a joint resolution of Ogden City and the Ogden School District Board of Education to support the bond.

A copy of the resolution is available online (click here).
