Newly elected Ogden City Council member Angela Choberka and re-elected Council members Bart Blair (3rd term), Doug Stephens (4th term), and Marcia White (2nd term) took the oath of office on January 2, 2018, and the Council selected Richard Hyer as Chair and Ben Nadolski as Vice Chair for its 2018 leadership.
Council Member Choberka, who represents Municipal District 1, said:
“I am a proud East-Central resident, and I will do my best to represent not only my district, but also the city as a whole. I remain committed to the values I promoted throughout my campaign: community, equality, and accessibility. I will continue to seek ways to improve access to information, provide opportunity for equal voice in all city processes, and focus on the strengths of our community rather than the deficits and the challenges that we face.”
Council Member Blair, who represents the city at-large, said:
“I am excited for the Council that we have and thankful for the Councils that we have had in the past. I think that this Council can accomplish great things. Ogden is a much different city than it was eight years ago. I am excited for the direction that we are going, the issues that we are willing to investigate and address, and the ideas that we are willing to incorporate into our city.”
Council Member Stephens, who represents Municipal District 3, said:
“I am eager for the opportunity to continue to move Ogden forward in a positive direction, to build upon the progress and growth that we enjoy at the present time, and to produce additional opportunities for those who work, live, play, and visit our great city. The success of Ogden is dependent on the community working together toward a common vision and creating an environment where everyone feels welcome and heard. I would also like to thank Council Member Garner for his service and dedication in improving the city. Ogden is a better place because of his service. ”
Council Member White, who represents the city at-large, said:
“Civility and respect are two words that describe our Council. I believe that as a group we can accomplish more for the city than we can individually. I am proud to surround myself with the best of the best, as we work to make Ogden an even better place. We have progressed so much as a community during the past four years. I am eager to build upon those successes and create new opportunities for growth during the next four.”
Chair Hyer, who has served on the Council since 2012 and on Council leadership in 2014, 2015, and 2017, said:
“It is truly an honor to represent the Council as Chair. I am eager to work closely with all Council members to set a collective vision and develop our top priorities for the year. I am confident that we will continue to build upon the successes, unity, and collaboration of the last Council to create even greater opportunity for Ogden.”
Vice Chair Nadolski, who has served on the Council since 2016, said:
“I am often reminded of the progress that we as a Council have made throughout the years. There are many stories and lessons of growth. As this Council continues to grow, we will be able to accomplish many more great things for Ogden. I look forward to continuing to strengthen our communication and collaboration this year, as we work together to serve our community.”
