The Ogden City Council has adopted the FY2018 Tentative Budget and will take action on the final budget on August 8th.
The Council encourages the public to provide feedback on the budget at the public hearings scheduled during the June 20th, July 11th, and August 8th City Council meetings.
Among the key changes proposed in the FY2018 budget, the Council will consider a small property tax increase.
“Our City Administration has done an outstanding job throughout the years of stretching limited dollars while still providing exceptional service,” Council Chair Marcia White said. “However, City revenue has not kept up with inflation, and we need to evaluate the City’s needs and services and how to fund them now and into the future.”
The Council will have a better idea of the necessity for and size of the proposed property tax increase once the City receives its certified tax rate from the County later this month. The City’s financial advisors are working closely with the Council as they consider this proposal.
Other changes proposed in the FY2018 budget include step increases for public safety employees, merit increases for general employee salaries, and additional salary adjustments for those employed with the City during years that salary increases were foregone.
The Tentative Budget addresses the Council’s priorities of promoting active and healthy living, fostering neighborhoods and building community, developing multi-mode transportation options, enhancing community outreach and engagement, cultivating arts and culture, supporting public safety and other essential services, and ensuring fiscal sustainability and transparency.
Council members, acting as Redevelopment Agency (RDA) board members and Municipal Building Authority (MBA) trustees, have also adopted the FY2018 RDA Budget and FY2018 MBA Budget.
